Breaking Social (2023) 7pm
Sweden / Netherlands / Norway / Switzerland / Finland. 93 minutes. Cert 15 TBC
All societies are based on the idea of a social contract. We are told that if we work hard, if we treat others with respect, if we play by the rules, we will be rewarded. But then there’s the rule breakers. Those who make use of tax havens and reap profits without paying back to society.
BREAKING SOCIAL looks at global patterns of kleptocracy and extractivism. An assassinated investigative journalist in Malta. A river without water in Chile. When people reach a tipping point, they start to organize and protest. We will see those already fighting at the frontlines of social uprisings across the world. £6/7.

Guilt Trip – 15 mins long
George Hibberd is the co-founder of Safe Landing will do a Q&A afterwards, approx 30 mins
Commercial pilots George Hibberd and Todd Smith grapple with the reality of their dream jobs, torn between childhood ambitions of flying and the impact of their industry on the world beneath them. From the cockpit, they witness first-hand the climate crisis unfolding below and decide to take drastic measures. As part of Safe Landing, a community of aviation workers who want the industry to do better for the climate, they begin to transform their eco-anxiety and guilt into action. With an estimated 1.2 million passengers in the sky at any time, they ask when will society confront the urgent need to reimagine aviation – before it’s too late.

Greenpeace Arctic Sunrise: Black Ice (2022) 53min Follow by a discussion afterwards, approx 30min
Director: Maarten Van Rouveroy
Rating: Exempt from Classification
Donation: £3
In 2025, the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise is on a mission across Europe: exposing the dirty truths of fossil gas and fighting for a future without fossil fuels. When the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise set sail in 2013 to protest the first ever oil drilling in the Arctic Ocean, none of the people on board could have known what was coming. Seized at gunpoint by Russian special forces, the ‘Arctic 30’ were thrust into headlines all over the world, facing up to 15 years in prison and finding themselves at the centre of a bitter international dispute. A similar protest the previous year at the same oil platform had seen the Greenpeace activists walk away untouched. This time, the events that unfolded sent shockwaves across the world. ‘Black Ice’ tells the story of the Arctic 30 from the moment they set sail to protest at the controversial Prirazlomnaya oil platform, to their arrest, imprisonment…and what happened next.
