THE SKIN I LIVE IN (SPAIN 2011) At Boathouse No. 6, Historic Dockyard Ever since his wife was burned in a car crash, Dr. Robert Ledgard, an eminent plastic surgeon, has been interested in creating a new skin with which he could have saved her. After twelve years, he manages to cultivate a skin that is a real shield against every assault. In addition to years of study and experimentation, Robert needed three more things: no scruples, an accomplice and a human guinea pig. |

BBC REEL HISTORY EVENT At the Omega Centre Tuesday 7 February, 6pm Two fascinating films showing different attitudes to Portsmouth. One is a slice of social reality, Citizen 63 a documentary form the BBC archive about Marion, and directed by John Boorman, would go on to direct classics Point Blank, Deliverance, and Excalibur. Second is the glossy Travelogue Telly Savalas Looks at Portsmouth produced by the prolific filmmaker Harold Baim, featuring a voice over by the star of Kojak. The evening will also feature a talk by local historian Dr Dave Allen, who will introduce the films, placing them in their historical context. |

WEST IS WEST (UK 2010) At the Omega Centre Manchester, North of England, 1975. The now much diminished, but still claustrophobic and dysfunctional, Khan family continues to struggle for survival. Sajid, the youngest Khan, the runt of the litter, is deep in pubescent crisis under heavy assault both from his father's tyrannical insistence on Pakistani tradition, and from the fierce bullies in the schoolyard. THE PRINCESS OF MONTPENSIER (FRANCE 2010) At the Omega Centre France, 1562. Against a background of the savage Catholic/Protestant wars, Marie de Mézières (Mélanie Thierry), a beautiful young aristocrat, and the rakish Henri de Guise (Gaspard Ulliel), fall in love, but Marie's father has promised her hand in marriage to the Prince of Montpensier (Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet). When he is called away to battle, her husband leaves her in the care of Count Chabannes (Lambert Wilson), an aging nobleman with a disdain for warfare. As he experiences his own forbidden desire for Marie, Chabannes must also protect her from the dangerously corrupt court dominated by Catherine de Medici. |

MARY AND MAX (AUSTRALIA 2009) At the Omega Centre Oscar winning director Adam Elliot's simple tale of the innocent correspondence between a portly eight year old girl from the suburbs of Melbourne and a middle-aged Jewish New Yorker. On the surface it would seem that Mary and Max would have little in common, but over the course of twenty years, the unlikely pen pals exchange letters discussing everything from taxidermy, trust, pets, religion, obesity, autism, agoraphobia, alcoholism, and just about any other topic that comes to mind as they sit down and put pen to paper |
